The big day arrived without ceremony. I woke just before the trumpet of my 5:30 alarm, as usual. I’d already gotten everything together the night before, so my morning routine was pretty regular. Start the coffee, sit down to my journal and studies, a light yoga routine. Then I had to go open the little post office I work part time at — something’s got to keep the bill man off my back until I can figure out how to make this writing thing work for me. And, I’d actually been denied when I’d requested the day off. But was able to arrange for a co-worker to cover for me after 9am. I refused to let anything stand in the way of my first author event.
Grace was already in town. We met at the venue and started setting up on Friday night. She’d organized a beautiful set up. And the event host set us up with some prime real estate. So there wasn’t a ton left to do to have the Southern Writers Guild booth sitting at a hundred percent.
You wouldn’t hardly believe this venue, it was spectacular! The Peach Barn isn’t a barn at all, it’s more like a cathedral disguised as a barn. And it sits on the edge of a beautifully manicured pine forest and private lake. It’s probably three stories high, with a balcony that runs around three sides. And had big ol’ pretty candlelit chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The backside of the thing is mostly glass, and looked out onto a veranda and the lake. I ain’t really a picture taker, I tend to just use my eyes for that sort of thing. Maybe Grace has some photos to add.
We met some fine people, including a group of great writers. And the Guild is now on the list for several other events in the area!
One thing’s for sure. The Southern Writers Guild is here to stay. We had a blast at Bands, Booze, and Books, even though it was a hundred and twenty degrees all day long. And now that we’ve gotten a taste of the spotlight, we’re hungry for more. Stay tuned!
